Wilkes’ photography has received national and regional recognitions for excellence for his work focuses on the built environment. Yearly, Wilkes submits his work to the American Institute of Architects National Photography Competition. In this highly competitive environment he placed among the top three or was awarded a Juror’s Commendation or Honorable Mention on numerous occasions. He is a four time AIA recipient of the Fuller Award representing the best photograph for a subject in the U.S.

Wilkes collaborates with his wife, Penny, fusing his images with her poems. They collaborated on three of her books published by Finishing Line Press.
